Bad Blood

So I've been meaning to write another post about Bastille for a while now. I've posted one or two of their covers in the past without saying a great deal on them, though I remember the band being great live when I saw them a couple of years ago. They've had a fair bit of Radio One play time which is great for them and really showcases something we should be proud of and excited about in contemporary music. As much as they're pretty poppy and sweet, there's a tone to the vocal that's so unique and, in my view, absolutely gorgeous. Here's a sampler of their forthcoming album , Bad Blood, and though there are one or two relatively weak-sounding tracks on there, I think I'll be buying it.

Yeah, so, umm..

I was never Everything Everything's biggest fan when they broke on to the scene a while back. I remember the fuss over getting hold of one of their sold-out tickets in the Bodega, I remember Fearne Cotton and Zane Lowe's raving on about them, I remember they were/are a big deal to a lot of the hipsters I knew about town, mainly because they can be counted as Nottingham's very own cool-kid boast. However, I was never particularly taken with them - something about them, mainly the slightly high-pitched desperate vocal, put me off.
BUT having just heard this track, and subsequently checked out the video, there's something about the energy and vibrancy of Cough Cough that has caught my attention. Their forthcoming album's due out in January 2013 and if it's got anything similar to this then I reckon it'll be worth my while. Enjoy.

A Perfect Summer Wave

I've spent the entirety of this beautiful summers day listening to this gorgeously eclectic album while battling with a film essay. It's pretty much the only reason I've been keen to keep myself indoors all day scouring the internet for appropriate sources and critical insights without giving up.
Tesellate, Something Good, Ms and Bloodflood are my personal favourites, though as I've already made clear in previous posts, I'm a big alt-J fan. Enjoy.

SCREAMS

Is it bad that this level of band-related mania makes total sense to me? I boody love One Direction.

This war is almost won

So here's Josh Record for The Mahogany Sessions - there is something about the tone of his voice and the way his lyrics lilt out of his mouth that I simply adore.

Islands

City High

I'm experiencing some hard-hitting flashbacks to singing this obsessively every break time for at least a year with my un-madeup school friends. Bastille know how to twist the shit out of childhood memories...

Cosmic

That harp is just too fucking lovely not to post this.

Twin Atlantic

I'm not sure I could comfortably state that I'm still a fan of the Scottish band, Twin Atlantic, but I'm perfectly happy to admit that I used to be, in a big way.
I saw them in 2008 when they were all young and fresh-faced, and were the support band for The Subways, and I was one of the few members of the crowd who was actually appreciative of their noise, whereas much of the audience became highly abusive and added a very unpleasant vibe to the already full atmosphere of the old Carling Academy. Twin Atlantic, true to form, were fairly abusive in return, we were treated to a variety of hand signals and slating comments, but the set was still tight, and as I was a working "Music Journalist" at the time, they received a good review.
So anyway, enough of the nostalgia, I used to be a fan, and am still well aware of their seemingly sudden success that is smeared all over Radio One. It's good to hear them being played by the radio music "gurus", Zane Low and Fearne Cotton on such a regular basis.

Normally, I would put up a video of theirs, a favourite track of mine, or something... But nah, they're getting enough coverage so here's a picture seeing as I've had a four year crush on their front man, Sam.

Allured

So, they're neglectful of future press and exposure and compliments, at least, as far as I'm concerned, but this video (Elephant - Allured) is something I quite like, mainly because the song's a good'n. Enjoy

Into the wild, wild night

I know that a certain bratty little lady love of mine, Hatty, of all the people (whowouldathoughtit?) loves this songs. I think I do too. Very cute.

Awww, little voley...

Fearne Cotton strikes again

Dear me, I really cannot tell these days.
Is this majorly offensive, or kinda cute?

I think it's cute, but that might just be because I think he sounds like an elongated vole on speed and laughing gas. HA.
And using her vocals certainly raises the tone. Shame he has never been able to sing in tune though...
